Dakota Fanning Defends Kristen Stewart Over Cheating Scandal: 'Why Do You Think You Are the Authority to Judge People's Experiences?'

Dakota Fanning is sticking up for her bestie.

The 18-year-old recently defended Kristen Stewart -- her co-star in the Twilight movie series and 2010's The Runaways -- after Stewart was caught cheating on beau Robert Pattinson with her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders.

"Everyone thinks they have the right to, you know, publicize the struggles and sadness and heartbreak and all of that," she said of the scandal in an interview with the UK edition of InStyle magazine.

"It’s like, 'Why do you think you are the authority to judge people’s experiences?" asked Fanning, soon to be seen opposite Stewart and Pattinson in this month's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 2.

Fanning's defense of Stewart, 22, echoes the one penned in August by Stewart's long-ago co-star Jodie Foster.

“In my era, through discipline and force of will, you could still manage to reach for a star-powered career and have the authenticity of a private life.” Foster, 49, wrote in an emotional essay. “Not anymore.… I’ve said it before and I will say it again: if I were a young actor today I would quit before I started. If I had to grow up in this media culture, I don’t think I could survive it emotionally.”

“Hopefully in the process you don’t lose your ability to throw your arms in the air again and spin in wild abandon," wrote Foster, who played Stewart's mother in 2002's Panic Room. "That is the ultimate F.U. and — finally — the most beautiful survival tool of all. Don’t let them take that away from you.”
