Celebrities from Kesha, to Mad Men actress Christina Hendricks and Idol judge Mariah Carey are flaunting their famous curves, in the face of the undeniable pressure to be stick thin.
"Women are starting to look within to feel good about themselves," body image expert Christy Whitman explains to Celebuzz.
"They are learning to love themselves for who they are."
Lady Gaga is another star who has embraced the body revolution. In September, the 26-year-old Mother Monster tweeted a photo of herself with the caption, "bulimia and anorexia since I was 15."
The startling revelation sent a powerful message to critics who had scrutinized her apparent weight gain.
Then, last week, the "Poker Face" singer posted another photo of herself sunbathing in a bikini on the Puerto Rico leg of her worldwide "Born This Way Ball" tour.
Her blatant confidence and comfort in a bikini is proof positive that she is comfortable in her own skin.
And she's not alone, explains Whitman.
"Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce really started to show women in the early 90's that curvier bodies are sexy, beautiful and healthy," the New York Times best-selling author adds.
"Jessica Biel, Shakira and Scarlett Johansson are in great shape and take care of themselves by working out and are considered very feminine and sexy."

The X Factor judge Demi Lovato is another outspoken starlet who has battled her own body image issues to become a voice for young women.
Earlier this year, 20-year-old Lovato admitted to Katie Couric that she battled bulimia from the start of her teen years.

Today, Lovato is an poster child of the real beach bodies cause and has, like a cavalcade of other celebrities, reminded us that "curves are sexy," according to Whitman.
The new movement to accept imperfections and all "is coming from self-love and self-acceptance," Whitman suggests.

I'm not the biggest Gaga fan, but I am so proud of her for admitting to an eating disorder and being brave enough to tell people to get lost if they don't like her weight gain. I myself have struggled with eating disorders for over 10 years, and I know firsthand that EVERY day is a struggle to recover and STAY recovered. Good on her for showing all those girls that look up to her that you don't have to risk your life to be beautiful. Honestly, I think she looks better than ever.
