'X Factor's' Emblem3 No Longer Minds 'Boy Band' Label, Looks Forward to Partying With One Direction
There was a time during The X Factor’s Season 2 auditions when Huntington Beach boys, Emblem3, railed against being labeled a “boy band.” Several rounds later, things have changed.
“Honestly, at this point, I don’t really care about any labeling,” Drew Chadwick told Celebuzz after Wednesday’s show. “We’re going to be who we’re going to be.”
“At first, we wanted to make for damn sure that people would see us as a band, not just label us immediately as a boy band,” Wesley Stromberg, who says fans can look forward to original songs and instruments in upcoming performances, adds. “And we did that. And now, technically we’re a group of guys and we play music. You can call us a boy band if you want.”
On Wednesday, the boys pretty much cemented some pop cred when not only did they perform a mash up of Katy Perry’s “California Girls” and The Temptations’ “My Girl,” bu they did it over the beat of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful.” Groups mentor Simon Cowell called it "a tribute" to the band he helped put together. Of course, we're sure the timing wasn't lost on Cowell. The X Factor UK alums are performing on Thursday’s elimination show.
While his bandmate hopes the guys can give them career tips, Chadwick is hoping for the opposite. “I just heard they know how to party,” he says.
“We’ve been cooped up in that mansion for like weeks,” he explains. “I’m trying to let loose a little bit and have a good time.”
The X Factor Top 13 elimination show airs Thursday at 8 PM on FOX.
