'Dancing With the Stars' Contestants Karina Smirnoff and Apolo Ohno Lend Their Support for Brooke Burke's Battle With Thyroid Cancer (EXCLUSIVE VIDEO)
Fresh off the heels of Brooke Burke's shocking revelation that she is battling thyroid cancer, Dancing With the Stars: All-Stars contestants Karina Smirnoff and Apolo Ohno are sending their well wishes and offering support to the show's stunning host.
Smirnoff, 34, told Celebuzz, "It's extremely sad because we see Brooke every single week and she's so sweet, so beautiful, so kind, so supportive to all those around."
Her dancing partner Ohno, 30, added, "Cancer affects everybody, it's so sad."
Smirnoff praised Burke for going public with her brave battle.
"Putting her personal journey out in the open like this so people can learn from it is a testament to how amazing a person she is," Smirnoff said.
The dancing duo reached out to Burke to offer her their support and were quickly met with a warm, heart-felt message from Burke.
Ohno added, "She's amazing, her energy is amazing. Brooke is just an amazing person."
On Thursday, Burke shared a personal video explaining her diagnosis.
“I need to have thyroid surgery and a thyroidectomy, which means that I’m going to have a nice big scar right here across my neck,” she revealed. “And I don’t get to walk around and pretend like nothing happened, or not follow up, or not share it because it’s going to be pretty much dead center [of my neck].”
“Here’s the way I see it: I’m just going to make a positive out of this negative thing,” she concluded.
