Channing Tatum has been crowned PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive — and after reviewing his red-hot film career, it’s no wonder why.

Ever since he stepped into the spotlight in 2005, the handsome Hollywood actor has ascended to big-screen fame through a range of films: Tatum two-stepped in 2006’s Step Up; dominated the box office in 2009’s G.I. Joe; and tore at heartstrings in 2010’s Dear John.

Then, this year, his career climb seemed to hit its crescendo. In 2012, Tatum allured audiences in The Vow, made them laugh in 21 Jump Street, and set their hearts racing in Magic Mike.

The following month, Tatum will reprise his role as Captain Duke Hauser in action-adventure flick G.I. Joe: Retailiation, the sequel to 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

And come summer, Tatum will team up with Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jamie Fox in White House Down, in which he stars as a gun-totting Secret Service agent tasked with protecting the president after the White House is overtaken by an attack. Tatum is even been tapped for the Wachowski siblings’ upcoming sci-fi, Jupiter Ascending.

It’s all a sign that Tatum is poised to step a into a new level of super-stardom. And if his past filmography is any indication, the camera will continue to love Tatum’s chiseled good looks and charming demeanor, be it in action flicks, romances, comedies or dramas. That’s no doubt a gift that helped him garner the honor of Sexiest Man Alive.
