‘Last Resort’ Star Daniel Lissing Teases ‘Nuke It Out’ and the Reveal of Pakistan Secrets (Q&A, VIDEO)
“There’s a terrorist attack on one of the crew members,” Daniel Lissing, who plays Navy SEAL James King on the show, told Celebuzz. “She gets a bomb strapped to her and before we can chase down the culprit we set up trying to dismantle this bomb. It gets pretty intense. I’m not going to tell you if it goes off or not but it’s pretty full on.”
Helping James diffuse this dangerous situation will be Lieutenant Grace Shepard (Daisy Betts) with whom he has a contentious relationship. With the crew of the USS Colorado and the people of the island of Sainte Marina under chemical attack on last week’s episode, this Thursday, things are taking a turn for the worse and going nuclear.
We spoke with Lissing about what we can expect from this week’s episode, “Nuke it Out,” as well as when we’ll finally learn more about just what those Navy SEALS did in Pakistan.
Celebuzz: We’re assuming you can’t tell us who the target of this week’s terrorist attack is but what can you tease?
Daniel Lissing: I’m not going to tell you who it is, but I’m going to tell you it’s a female crew member and she does a brilliant job. We didn’t have to do a lot of acting. She was there. It really felt like she had a real bomb strapped to her, which was scary.
DL: There’s so much going on in this episode. It’s all intertwined. Marcus and Sam [Scott Speedman] are in damage control mode trying to find who stole their defenses – their defense is completely down due to the fact the launch key has been stolen. The only reason they’re still alive is because this person has not relayed that information that they’ve taken the key yet. There’s a bit of conflict there for that person.
Celebuzz: Will we find out who was behind last week’s chemical attack?
DL: You’re going to find out by the end of this episode who stole the Epi-Pens for the BZ attack and who took the key by the end of this episode. That’s going to be a bit of a shock.
Celebuzz: Grace and James have an interesting relationship. To us it’s sort of a love/hate type of relationship. Now, it seems James may be starting to learn more towards Grace and the crew’s view of what really happened in the pilot, where is his head at in the moment in terms of the situation?
DL: James is still on the fence. He’s a Navy SEAL. He’s an American and he’s patriotic. He’s really conflicted at the moment. Not only does he blame himself partially for what happened but now which side he’s on. He’s really sitting on the fence and that’s all going to reveal itself in the next episodes for the character. [As for Grace and James' relationship] there is a fair amount of loathing between Grace and James that’s going to reveal itself as well but I still wake up in Tani’s [Dichen Lachman] bed in the morning at the start of the episode.
DL:All the Pakistan stuff is going to reveal itself in the next few episodes. As a matter of fact, Episode 9 that comes on the air is pretty much all about that. You get flashbacks and you get the whole story. It’s pretty great. I haven’t seen it yet but the script was a really good one I thought. There’s a lot going on.
Celebuzz: We will also meet one of James’ mentors, Wes Porter (guest star James Beghe) in that episode. What can you tell us about his role?
DL: I can say Jason Beghe, the guy who played Wes Porter, is phenomenal. It was such a pleasure to work with him. I will say that our characters meet overseas and that Sam and James get off the island and one of us might not come back.
