Rihanna Curses Out Band in Mid-Song, Fends Off Streakers and Rioting Reporters: See 6 Out-of-Control Moments During Her 777 World Tour
"We are practically living on this thing for a week: sleeping, partying all together. Me, my fans, the press … It’s going to be a wild ride,” Rihanna said regarding the world-wide tour, promoting her seventh album, Unapologetic, by hitting seven cities in seven countries across seven days -- including Mexico City, Toronto, Stockholm, Paris, Berlin, London, and concluding with New York City on Tuesday.
It did turn out to be a wild ride, but not in ways that anyone anticipated, or would want to repeat. As the tour nears an end, the glitz and glam seem to be wearing off -- Celebuzz recapped six note-worthy developments from the chaotic tour.
1. Rihanna arrived hours late to her first stop in Mexico City.
Rihanna's first 777 tour stop was planned to be at 5 P.M. at El Plaza Condesa in Mexico City, but she arrived over three our later. The songstress addressed the tardiness on stage, saying, "I want to apologize for being late. Our bags were late. This is our first time bringing around a group this big." [Rolling Stone]
After the flight from Sweden took off, the press section of the jet got riled up -- chanting "Rihanna" to convince her to make an appearance in their area. Then, to much a surprise, an Australian, harmonica-playing radio DJ stripped down and ran across the plane, adding to the chaotic scene on the plane. [Us Weekly]
3. The "Only Girl" songstress arrived late -- yet again -- to her Christmas lighting ceremony at Westfield shopping centre in the U.K.
Rihanna kept 20,000 fans waiting in the cold at the mall in Stratford City, East London, where she was set to turn on the Christmas lights and perform for the masses. [Huffington Post]
4. Rihanna curses out her crew during her London performance on stage.
After the R&B singer was already well into her song "Where Have You Been" jam, she halted to vent:
“Alight, what the f*ck. Stop this sh*t. What the f*ck is that? Why is the track off from the band?"
"This is the bullsh*t we deal with when we are just doing a random rock and roll tour with no rehearsal and sh*t.”
“I apologize for everyone [live streaming] at home… We are going to start this one again from the top." [GossipCop]
Fuse's Jason Newman -- who was a passenger on the plane following the London gig -- reported that the group was "fueled by jet lag, too little sleep, insufficient food, airplane liquor bottles, one too many middle-of-the-night flights and frustration at lack of interaction with the singer." [Fuse]
In London, one journo even started a "Missing: Rihanna" campaign, handing out fake flyers. [Us Weekly]
6. Rihanna addressed the disappointed fans and press before her last show tonight at Webster Hall in NYC.
"Guess what, we made it! This has been an experience that I will never ever forget. I barely slept. My sleeping was all done on this plane,"
"I want to thank everyone for making this trip the sh--. I want to see the naked Australian!"
"I was glad I did this. absolutely. Tonight is the night everything we did this week goes off."
"I know you guys got barely any dirt. But I had to be good. I still sound like sh--. It's impossible to spend time with everybody, and I'm sorry I didn't. But this was excellent and I would definitely do it again." [Us Weekly]
