One Direction's 'Take Me Home' Debuts at No. 1 and Scores 2012's Third-Biggest Opening
One Direction did it again.
The British boy band's second studio album Take Me Home has officially topped the Billboard 200. Take Me Home sold over 540,000 copies in its first week, reports Billboard, making it the third-largest sales week of the year, behind Taylor Swift's Red (1.2 million) and Mumford & Sons' Babel (600,000).
One Direction's debut album Up All Night topped the U.S. charts back in March. At the time, the lads made Billboard history, becoming the first UK group to score a No. 1 with their debut album.
Adding to their stateside success, One Direction recently announced their plans to release a 3D concert film in August 2013. Super Size Me mastermind Morgan Spurlock will be helming the project.
“This is an incredible opportunity and an amazing moment in time for the band,” Spurlock said in a statement. “To capture this journey and share it with audiences around the world will be an epic undertaking that I am proud to be a part of.”told MTV News. “It holds a special place in our heart, I think for this album, and it kind of sets the tone, I think, for the album.”
In spring 2013, One Direction will begin their sold-out world tour in the UK. Look for One Direction’s 3D concert film to hit theaters August 30, 2013.
