After feuding with her co-star Mariah Carey during a North Carolina audition and lashing out at ex-Idol mentor Steven Tyler, Nicki Minaj is showing the world her softer side.

In a light-hearted new promo for the next season of FOX’s American Idol, the 29-year-old judge gushed about how her role as a judge on the reality singing competition show is to “give people who wouldn’t normally have that chance a dream,” as she molds their journey.

The “Starships” rapper added, “No one’s ever going to touch American Idol. No one’s going to come close.”

It was just on Monday that Minaj branded Tyler as a racist — when he questioned her judging skills, saying that Minaj would’ve sent Bob Dylanto the cornfield” if he had auditioned for the FOX singing competition.

Soon after, the Aerosmith rocker, 64, retracted his statement by saying, “I apologize if it was taken wrong, Nicki,” on Canadian entertainment show, eTalk.

He added, “But I am the farthest from [being a racist]. I am the last thing on this planet as far as being a racist. I don’t know where she got that out of me saying I’m not sure how she would’ve judged Bob Dylan.”

Maybe Minaj heard the message, because after a season full of fret about the judges being the center of attention instead of contestant-centric as it started, the new promo seems to be trying to bring Idol back to its hopeful roots.

Season 13 of American Idol airs January 16, 2013.
