‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Recap: Is Seattle Grace Ready for Another Baby?

On this episode of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, some people’s relationships are heading in the right direction, while others seem to be heading down the path to oblivion.

You have to admire a show that can keep you paying attention to all the wrong things and then pull out a surprise the way this episode did. I’ll admit I didn’t see that last five minutes coming at all and was shocked by both the good and the bad reveals at the end.

Note: Spoilers ahead if you haven’t seen Thursday’s episode, “I Was Made for Lovin’ You.”

First of all, let’s talk about the happier of the two announcements at the end of this episode. When Derek (Patrick Dempsey) walked into the house and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) looked all nervous sitting on the couch, for one second I thought something bad was coming. It wasn’t until he pulled out the t-shirt that I knew what was happening. I love that Meredith basically used April’s (Sarah Drew) idea to tell him she was pregnant. The only thing I can say about this right now is that I really, really hope this isn’t going to turn into some sort of tragedy where she loses the baby. I don’t think I could handle that.

The second bit of news that we got at the end of the episode, I guess shouldn’t have been too much of a surprise. Seeing where Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Cristina (Sandra Oh) have been headed, I should have been better prepared, but I really wasn’t. I have been holding onto hope that these two would make it and a part of me is still stubbornly hopeful that it could happen. I’m not convinced that Owen asked for that divorce based solely on their trashed relationship, but rather on the news about what the board was trying to do with the lawsuit. So who’s to say they couldn’t still have a shot?

Speaking of relationships on a downward spiral; Jackson (Jesse Williams) and April’s fling stopped being fun a couple of episodes ago. For a minute there, I had a thought that maybe a baby would help, but ultimately I’m glad she wasn’t pregnant. I like April, but man, does she seem clueless when it comes to Jackson. I swear sometimes it’s like she’s the guy in their relationship. How could she not realize that celebrating that they didn’t “have” to get married was going to hurt Jackson’s feelings? I think they’re better off going their separate ways.

On much happier notes, we had Miranda finally giving in and accepting all of Ben’s (Jason George) wacky wedding plans. Personally, I can’t wait to see their Christmas-style wedding. Plus, there was Arizona’s (Jessica Capshaw) triumphant return to the hospital, Derek and Callie (Sara Ramirez) deciding to work together to fix his hand and the once cold-hearted Cristina growing a heart and fighting for her interns. It was those stories and moments that took away from the Cristina/Owen and April/Jesse drama just enough to make this an overall fun episode.

Buzz Moments

OMG!: Owen realizing that the board had tricked him into signing the confidentiality agreement and what their true plans were.

Thank you, TV gods.: Meredith is pregnant!!! Yes!!

Awk-ward: Meredith’s patient grabbing her ass while she was examining him.

Hotness: Jackson announcing that he was in, all the way, if Kepner was pregnant. I find a guy being that sweet incredibly hot, even though I knew it probably wasn’t going to happen.

Fab-u-lous: Just picturing all the cool things that Bailey’s fiancé wanted to do for their wedding. A cupcake tower, twinkling lights? Sounds wonderful to me.

Can. Not. Wait.: Derek and Meredith’s baby. How freakin’ adorable is that kid going to be?

Celebuzz Meter (1-10): 7. A pretty good episode overall.
