Kate Middleton Pregnant: The Duchess of Cambridge's Most Maternal Moments
Motherhood is just around the corner for Kate Middleton.
After more than 19 months of wedded bliss, Middleton and Prince William are expecting their first child. "Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby," the palace said in a statement on Monday. "The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news."
As she is not even 12 weeks, Middleton's due date has yet to be revealed. But the Duchess' pregnancy has already landed her in London's King William VII Hospital, where she was admitted Monday afternoon to be treated for severe morning sickness. "It's a period of rest that she needs," the palace said, "so she will stay in for several days."
Due to a drastic constitutional change in British succession rules last year, the royal couple's first-born will be next in line to the British throne after Prince William, regardless of the baby's gender. Middleton will become the first commoner in 350 years to birth a future King or Queen of England.
But is she ready to raise a future monarch? Middleton has revealed her maternal side ever since joining the royal family with her April 29, 2011, wedding to Prince William. The royal has certainly had plenty of well-publicized practice with children, bonding with little ones all across the globe during her and her husband's official U.K. appearances, buzzed-about trip to America and Diamond Jubilee Tour of Southeast Asia.
Now, before Middleton debuts her baby bump, Celebuzz is looking back at some of the Duchess' sweetest maternal moments — from speaking with pupils at British schools, to hugging young hospital patient sand greeting giddy little ones at official appearances.
