As NBC's The Office approaches its series finale next year, it’s not just the fans who want Steve Carell to come back before the curtain falls for good.

“I hope he does [make an appearance],” Wilson told Celebuzz at the CNN Heroes event on Sunday in downtown Los Angeles.

But he stopped short of confirming if Michael Scott will come back to stir up the water cooler talk at Dunder Mifflin.

“I don’t know if he is," Wilson added. "You have to talk to the powers that be. I’m just a lowly character actor."

Carell, 50, left The Office in 2011 after eight seasons to focus on his movie career and his family.

Wilson even poked fun at himself on the serious night, which was hosted by CNN and Anderson Cooper, celebrating individuals who made extraordinary contributions to humanitarian aid over the past year.

“The real celebrities are the people making a difference in the world, not the people telling dumb jokes on stupid TV shows like myself,” said the 46-year-old actor.

The Office is currently in its ninth and final season. The series finale date is yet to be set.

Erm... Steve Carell was not a part of the series for 8 seasons. It was 6 and a half. And the first season wasn't even a season.
