Elijah Wood was feeling nostalgic on the red carpet for the New York premiere of The Hobbit on Thursday.

"I feel like I'm stepping back in time," the Lord of the Rings star told Celebuzz. "It's surreal but it's also lovely."

Wood spent about a month in New Zealand, where he met the newest castmembers and visited old friends. "I got to meet the cast, and it was so exciting to meet everyone," he said.

"It's nice to know that they were having an experience that was akin to what we [in Lord of the Rings] had gone through," the 31-year-old continued.

Wood explained how long hours on the set, especially with it being set in such a far away location, has brought the cast together similarly to his Lord of the Rings co-stars.

"They were already bonding as a family," he said. "It was lovely to go and live vicariously through them."
