Clearly, something is working for Tate Stevens, Carly Rose Sonenclar and Emblem3, the current Top 3 acts on FOX’s The X Factor.

When Celebuzz spoke with the singers after Thursday’s elimination show — which saw CeCe Frey and Diamond White leave the competition — we asked the performers which judge gives the best advice and what that was.

Climbing back into the No. 1 spot, country singer Stevens says his mentor L.A. Reid’s confidence in him makes it easy for him to feel good about himself.

“Believe in myself, trust in what I do, and go out with the confidence I should have,” the 37-year-old says of the best advice Reid has given him.

Likewise, Sonenclar, who went down a notch this week to the second spot, credits her mentor and one other judge for helping her to make her way to this point in the competition.

Britney [Spears] said to always be confident and that’s really helped,” Sonenclar, 13, tells us. “And L.A. said if it’s a sad song, sell that. And if it’s a happy song, sell that. And never be in between. I think that really is great advice.”

Huntington Beach boys Emblem3 actually gave a surprise answer considering how this judge has critiqued them on-screen.

Demi [Lovato] gives good advice actually, low key behind curtains and stuff,” Drew Chadwick, 20, says. “But, Simon [Cowell], definitely… For winning the competition, he’s like, ‘You guys want to win, just listen to me.’”

Yep, that sounds like Cowell alright. Watch the interview above.

The X Factor airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8 PM on FOX.
