Suicide follows Kate Middleton prank call. Read More »

The husband of Jacintha Saldanha, the nurse who answered an Australian radio station's prank call regarding Kate Middleton's pregnancy then took her own life, has opened up about his wife's tragic suicide.

Ben Barboza wrote on his Facebook page, "I am devastated with the tragic loss of my beloved wife Jacintha in tragic circumstances. She will be laid to rest in Shirva, India."

Lisha, one of the couple's daughters, also expressed her grief on the social networking site, writing to her mother, "I miss you, I loveeee you."

Saldahna committed suicide days after Mel Greg and Michael Christian of Sydney-based 2DayFM dialed into the King Edward VII's Hoispital as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles looking for an update on the Duchess of Cambridge's condition.

Middleton was in the hospital after suffering from acute morning sickness due to the early stages of her pregnancy.

In a television interview with the Nine Network in Australia, the radio hosts admitted they are “shattered, gutted (and) heartbroken” over the tragic end to their hoax.

“There’s not a minute that goes by where we don’t think about her family and what they must be going through and the thought we may have played a part in that is gut-wrenching,” Greig told the program, A Current Affair.

The pair wept at times during the interview — their first public appearance since Saldanha’s death was confirmed — revealing the “simple harmless phone call” had been the joint idea of their production team.

The weekend after 46-year-old mother-of-two committed suicide, the chairman of King Edward VII’s Hospital penned a letter to the radio station condemning the prank call.

“I am writing to protest in the strongest possible terms about the hoax call made from your radio station, 2DayFM, to this hospital last Tuesday,” Lord Glenarthur wrote in a letter addressed to Max Moore-Wilton, chairman of the station’s parent company Southern Cross Austereo.

The DJs have since been taken off the air and have reportedly been offered counseling in the wake of the nurse’s death.

What do you think of the DJs' response? Are they to blame for Saldahna's death? Weigh in below.

I dont believe that the DJ's are to be blamed. I reckon the nurse had a lot of other problems lingering. People who are unsuccessful in taking their lives, will tell you that it was just not one episode that lead them to the decision, it is a whole lot of things that contribute. Its possible that she decided that morning that, that would be the day she took her life and it just so happened that the call came through.

I FEEL BAD FOR HER FAMILY BUT THIS IS JUST DOES'NT AD WHY WOULD SHE KILL HER SELF JUST FOR PASSING A PHONE CALL I MEAN I COULD UNDERSTAND IF IT WAS THE NURSE WHO GAVE OUT THE INFO THEN OK I GET IT SHE FELT HUMILIATED BECAUSE SHE FALL IN TO THE PRANK BUT THE NURSE WHO SAID PLZ HOLD DON'T BELIEVE IT.. THEY SHOULD'T MAKE THE RADIO STATION PEOPLE FEEL GUILTY OF FIRE THEM OR ANYTHING THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS PERSON LIFE I MEAN SORRY BUT ITS STUPID. WHAT DID SHE WAKE UP AND SAY IM KILLING MY SELF CUZ I TRANSFER THE CALL.. IM SORRY NOT TRYING TO BE CRUEL BUT MAKES NO SENCE FOR SOMEONE TO KILL HER SELF JUST BECAUSE SHE TRANSFER A PHONE CALL

There is certainly somthing sinister behind this unfortunate incident. There was absolutely no reason (according to news known publicly) for the 46 year old nurse to abandon her husband and children and take her own life for just passing the call to another staff. As usual everything will be revealed later !!

it seems obvious to me that the poor girls humiliation has come from the reaction of the hospital to staff giving information out on high profile clients and allowing the call through rather than the prank itself, this will turn out to be the hospital disciplinary system and what was said to the two nurses

It's not the DJ's fault. This woman must of had other issues before this. Why aren't the hospital reviewing thier procedures with in regards to high profile patients?

There had to be something else or lots of something else's for this woman to take her own life.It was not just because of the phone call she took. This was just the end of a long line of problems for her. It can't just be this!
