'The Voice's' Nicholas David Is Inspired by Coach Cee Lo Green: 'He’s Been Doing This for Almost 20 Years'
Nicholas David, a semi-finalist on NBC’s The Voice, is having the year of his life. Not only is he one of the Top 4 on America’s most popular singing competition show, but his wife is pregnant and their family has just moved into a brand new house in Minnesota.
“These really big pivotal things [are happening]. This has been one heck of a year,” David told Celebuzz after his emotional performance of Joe Cocker’s “You Are So Beautiful” on Monday night.
And much of the big things in his life, at least as far as The Voice is concerned, he owes to his coach Cee Lo Green.
“He’s changed my life,” David said of his relationship with Green. “It’s so wild to work with him and to be with him. From his own words it’s like [we’re] cut from the same cloth. To look at his life, he’s been doing this for almost 20 years, way before he’s kind of been publicly known. To take his life example and almost kind of apply it to my own, it’s pretty awesome.”
The 31-year-old also reflected on his quick trip to Minnesota to see his family and perform at the Mall of America, which he called “wild” especially when they entered the mall through a secret entrance.
“That place has been a part of my life for so many years. I never would have expected to bring music there,” said David of the surreal experience. “When we went there, we went through a secret entrance and I had like bodyguards, which was freaking awesome. It was rad.”
The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 PM on NBC.
