Taylor Swift isn’t acting like her usual self in her latest music video for her new single “I Knew You Were Trouble.”

Forget leisurely strolls through Paris and playful sing-a-long dance parities — in “Trouble,” the country-pop singer gets grungy in her darkest video to date.

“As soon as I started writing this song, I knew it was different from anything else on the record, so I knew that I wanted the video to be different from anything we’d ever done,” Swift told MTV News. “I wanted to tell the story of a girl who falls into a world that’s too fast for her, and suffers the consequences.”

The grimy video, shot by Anthony Mandler, features Swift as she falls for a handsome devil (Reeve Carney) — who “looks so much like an angel when he smiles at you” — with a bad boy reputation. Soon, poor naive Swift begins to lose herself in his dark, twisted world. “I think the worst part wasn’t losing him,” Swift muses in the video. “It was losing myself.”

“I feel incredibly lucky to have gotten to work with Anthony Mandler and to have Reeve Carney as my co-star in the video,” added the singer, who’s been making waves with her rumored romance with One Direction’s Harry Styles. “I can’t wait for everybody to see it.”

“I Knew You Were Trouble” is the third single from Swift’s record-breaking No. 1 album Red, and it’s a departure for the young pop star, whose name is now synonymous with lovesick guitar ballads. The song, which Swift has described as “chaotic,” is her first foray into dubstep. (To see the songs lyrics, go to Directlyrics.com.)

Swift told Good Morning America back in October: “There’s a song called ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’… It’s really intense and I’m so excited for people to hear it because it’s about [when] you meet someone and you just know, ‘Oh, you’re bad — why am I walking towards you anyway?”
