Oscar ballots were mailed out to voters on Monday, which means that members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will be scrambling over the next couple of weeks to catch up on every movie they might have missed this year.

Already, many of the top categories have been decided. (Yes, Anne Hathaway, you can start picking out your Oscar dress.)

But with the element of surprise always in play, Celebuzz thought today would be a good chance to plug some our favorite performances from 2012 -- ones that may not otherwise catch Oscar's attention.

Among our favorites: Matthew McConaughey in Magic Mike, which captivated audiences yet couldn't even manage to get a Golden Globe nomination, and Judi Dench in Skyfall, which, c'mon, was totally the best performance in that movie. (Sorry, Javier Bardem.)

Check out these and other under-the-radar performances that deserve Oscar nominations in the gallery, above.

Magic Mike should not be linked to the Oscars... EVER...

Just because Heath Ledger won an Oscar for Joker that doesn't mean she will win one too.

She should win. I can't believe that SAG nominated Kidman and not Amy. They always do that, they love Nicole Kidman.

Prometheus should be nominated for Best Special Effects but definitely NOT for Best actor. Seriously, I love Michael he is talented, but in Prometheus he gave a good normal performance. Noomi Rapace was good too, why don't you say about her performance too?
