Goodbye Gossip Girl, hello Carrie Bradshaw!

The CW’s Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries  is one of the most anticipated midseason shows. And judging from this newly released trailer -- which premiered during Monday night's Gossip Girl series finale -- it won't disappoint. The series follows Carrie, played by AnnaSophia Robb, in 1984 as she falls in love for the first time with Manhattan.

The '80s-inspired trailer introduces us to Carrie's high school friends -- Maggie (Katie Findlay), Mouse (Ellen Wong) and Walt (Brendan Dooling) -- and her first serious love interest Sebastian (Austin Butler). Carrie's free-spirited fashion editor mentor Larissa (Freema Agyeman) also makes her debut.

And if you’re wondering where Carrie’s BFFs — Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte — are, The Carrie Diaries takes place before the fab foursome even met.

“We didn’t want to do the Baby Muppets syndrome — ‘Oh, it’s baby Samantha! It’s baby Miranda!’” executive producer Amy B. Harris said at the New York premiere of the series in October. “There would never be a Charlotte, because everyone’s been a Charlotte until they’ve had their heart broken three times.”

“These are all characters that are different than the Sex and the City characters,” she continued. “Those archetypes are still there. You can see how she became friends with Miranda and Samantha.”

The Carrie Diaries premieres January 14, 2013 at 8PM on The CW.

CJ I absolutely respect your opinion, As for you Copa Cabana! I understand why you would be upset about the look of the show, But with all do respect the whole point is to make sure it doesn't look exactly like it did when you were a kid. It's 2012 and it is produced by the producers of Gossip Girl and Sex And The City! The clothes are supposed to be all about glamor! It's 80s with a modern twist! It's targeted for younger viewers who didn't really watch sex and the city and love fashion. I absolutely love everything about it, The hair and all the vibrant colors really make it pop! I am counting down the days until the show premieres! And I don't think something as little as the clothes the characters wear should prohibit you from watching! Also as someone who didn't grow up in the 80s looking back I would love to jump in time machine and see what it was like and so are all the younger viewers who will be tuning in to watch! it's our chance to see what it was like growing up in the 80s! It's another quirky teen show with New York Glamor and I can't wait to see it! This show is going to be a HUGE Success! And Sex In The City should rest in peace because it's O-V-E-R, Over! I saw couple episodes of Sex and The City And I fell In Love with everything about it Especially Carrie Bradshaw and I love both "Sex And The City 1" and "Sex And The City 2"! It would be great to see her as a Teen in the 80s! And Think about it Now we get to see how Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha, and Miranda meet from the beginning! <3

Hey! I was a kid in the 80s. WE-did not-look-like this! I don't mind a trip down memory lane as long as it's done right, and this looks so fake. Kids of today listen: 80s glamour was very very different. Wearing an orange eyeshadow is not it. SATC R.I.P.
