Happy Birthday, Psy! Look Back at Stars Who’ve Gone Gangnam Style
Just days before blowing out the candles on New Years Eve, the South Korean pop sensation scored an early birthday present with his now-iconic hit song.
After already achieving worldwide fame, the viral video became the first to hit a billion views on YouTube on Dec. 21, marking a fresh milestone in the international craze spawned by Psy’s side-stepping horse dance.
As “Gangnam Style” had fans across the globe to cutting a rug, much of Hollywood jumped on the bandwagon of pop culture’s latest phenomenon. Britney Spears did it with Ellen DeGeneres. Carrie Underwood did it on the CMA Award stage. And Hugh Jackman even did it wearing Wolverine claws.
And Psy — whose real name is Jae-Sang Park — has even schooled stars in his self-described “dress classy, dance cheesy” moves. In November, the suited-up South Korean rapper led Madonna and her bevy of backup dancers in his so-called invisible horse dance during the Queen of Pop’s MDNA tour concert in New York City.
Heidi Klum teamed up with Psy — matching in his signature powder-blue piped tuxedo jacket — for a choreographed dance duet during the MTV EMAs, which the supermodel hosted in Frankfurt, Germany.
So as Psy celebrates his 34th birthday, look back at all the celebrities who have copied his smooth moves. Then weigh in: Which other star would you like to see go “Gangnam Style”? Tell us why in the comments below.
