'Glee' Star on Being Unique: 'It's Amazing'
Alex Newell talks about how his role is changing lives.
On Fox's hit Glee, Alex Newell is anything but ordinary -- in fact he's quite Unique. Literally.
Newell, who joined the show after he was named runner-up on Oxygen's The Glee Project, plays Wade "Unique" Adams, a drag queen who isn't afraid to show her real colors -- even if it means alienating her own family.
"It's so amazing to go on Facebook and have someone email you -- I read them, I do read them! -- and say that I gave them the courage to live their day-t0-day lives, or to come out to their parents... It fills your heart," Newell told Celebuzz on the red carpet at Sunday's SAG awards.
And now the actor is ready for his character's heart to be filled, too -- with romance. Newell says he's told Glee creator Ryan Murphy "many times" that he's ready for Unique to have her own love story (and also admits that he'll take a little loving of his own).
The 20-year-old also dished on who he'd kill to meet on the red carpet (Hi, Sofia!), becoming a role model, and how he brought one fan to tears on the street.
"I didn't know I could do that," Newell said of his emotional encounter with the fan. "It was one of those moments that I'll always remember."
