Spice Girl Mel C Warns One Direction: 'Enjoy It Because It's Over So Quickly'
From chart-topping albums and sold-out concerts, to a Pepsi commercial, dolls and even a 3D documentary movie on the way, One Direction is flying high.
The British boy band's soaring success reminds Melanie C of when Spice Girls was on top of the world. During the height of their fame in the mid '90s, the pop girl group kept fans fawning with their hit singles, funky fashions and Spice World, a film inspired by their rise to stardom.
But like most pop culture phenomena, the Spice Girls' reign didn't last forever and now Mel C — formerly known as Sporty Spice — is warning the boys of One Direction that they may face the same fate.
“They [1D] seem to be breaking America, which we were lucky enough to do. My advice would be just enjoy it, because so often with success like that it’s over so quickly," she told Heat magazine. "So really enjoy every minute of it; try and take it all in, cause it’s crazy.”
But One Direction — comprised of Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson — is not slowing down in the new year as they gear up for their 2013 World Tour and 3D documentary, due out in the summer.
"I think it’s harder for boys, as well," she added. "But there’s lots of evidence that they like a bit of a party. There’s no time for hangovers, really! It can be difficult. But I have no sympathy. Just enjoy it. It’ll be over soon. I’m just joking, 1D fans!"
