This Guy Rejected Madonna's Romantic Advances
Yogi Cameron Alborzian reveals how he turned down the Queen of Pop.
Back in the '80s, Cameron Alborzian — now known as Yogi Cameron — was one of the world's first male supermodels, sought after for the pages of popular fashion magazines and serving as the face of everything from Versace and Chanel, to Dolce & Gabanna and Gucci.
But it was his three-season Guess Jeans campaign that caught the eye of Madonna.
"She found the picture of it and loved it and told her agent to find me," Alborzian told Celebuzz, recalling how the Queen of Pop hunted him down to star in the music video for her No. 2 Hot 100 hit, "Express Yourself."
And it was no run-of-the-mill music video — Hollywood director David Fincher helmed the hit clip, which was rumored to have the second biggest budget for a music video at the time of its release, topped only by Michael Jackson's "Thriller."
"It was amazing," Alborzian said. "At the time I was, what, 22, and it was a good time.... It was an amazing project to be a part of. So many people, as well." And his "great experience" on the video — which went on to nab the 1989 MTV Best Video Award — was in large part thanks to the Queen of Pop herself. "She’s a workaholic. She’s a perfectionist," he said. "That’s why the video lasted this long."
But when Madonna wanted to mix work with pleasure, Alborzian turned down her advances, despite her persistence.
"She would keep chasing me. That was the only memory I have," said Alborzian, who also went on to star alongside Kate Moss in Elton John's "The Way You Look Tonight." "[She's a] naughty girl. I was like ‘No! Leave me alone.’ Somebody had to say no. Sooner or later, [it] had to come."
Rejection didn't ruin their bond, though. "We’re still good friends up to this point," he added. "I don’t see her every day…but friendship lasts."
"[The] teachings...are basically nonviolence, truthfulness, controlling your sexual energy to use in other areas, like creativity, and then yoga postures, breathing methods, meditation," explained Alborzian, who works with Maria Menounos and Ellen DeGeneres. "[The One Plan] is really a whole holistic approach to lifestyle rather than just do one thing. And it’s brought to you in a whole year because a year is more doable because you can chip away at those things rather than put yourself under a lot of pressure."
