From Rihanna's red to Katy Perry's green, the red carpet fashion was relatively subdued and nothing new at the 2013 Grammy Awards.

Grammy Awards 2013: Red Carpet Trends

The hair was unfussy and the makeup mostly classic and pretty. The fashion was sophisticated but relatively subdued.

So what were the big style statements of the night -- and who made them?

From sparkle, sheer and slits to black, green and red, the red carpet at this year's Grammy Awards could have been mistaken for the Emmy Awards or Golden Globes, offering up much of the same trends we've been seeing for the past few seasons.

Still, there were a few standout looks strutting down the red carpet: Pants made their red carpet debut for the season, with Beyonce, Kaley Cuoco and Janelle Monae opting for black skinnies over dresses and gowns.

And while longer hemlines may not seem shocking, for the Grammy's -- the first awards show to have a dress code implemented to keep the attendees from showing too much skin -- the absence of mini dresses was certainly surprising.

Replacing the mini were knee-length and tea-length hemlines worn by the likes of Alexa Chung, Kat Dennings and Faith Hill. But there were still plenty of stems on display courtesy of daring slits and sheer skirts.

Check out more of the night's biggest trends below.
