A Good Weekend To ‘Die Hard’

The franchise’s latest takes home top spot at the weekend box office with $25M; “Identity Thief” and “Safe Haven” round out the top three.

Yippie-ki-yay -- Die Hard has done it again.

A Good Day to Die Hard, the fifth in the film franchise starring Bruce Willis as John McClane, grossed an estimated $25 million over the weekend, bringing its total to more than $33 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film beat out Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman's comedy Identity Thief and newcomer Safe Haven, which grossed $23.4 million and $21.4 million, respectively.

 

Meanwhile, Academy Award Best Picture nominees continued to rake in the millions this weekend.

Silver Linings Playbook too in another $6.1 million, bringing its grand total to $98.5 million.

Zero Dark Thirty made $3.1 million in ticket sales, just enough to take the 10th spot at the box office.

The 85th Academy Awards will be handed out next Sunday, Feb. 24.
