‘Pretty Little Liars’ Finale Recap: Toby’s Fate And Red Coat Revealed
The third season finale of the most addictive guilty pleasure on the network provided so many twists, turns and revelations that my head is still spinning. Along with some crazy cliffhangers and the return of a few fan favorites, this episode of PLL was definitely must see TV.
Where do we even begin breaking down this insane episode? Let’s start with Spencer (Troian Bellisario).
The newest “A” team member is fresh out of Radley at the beginning of the finale and working with Mona (Janel Parrish). But true to her character, Spence is playing a double agent. Apparently, Mona promised her if she did what was asked of her, she’d get her reward, in the form of her ex- boyfriend — Toby (Keegan Allen). I’ll let you take a second to relish in the fact that he is back!
Evil Mona had schemed to break Spence down by faking Toby’s death and then dangled him in front of her as if she were a puppy begging for a treat so that she’d join her mission. While I was skeptical of Spoby’s reunion at first, his said that he did it all to “protect her.” And that won the younger Hastings sister over.
“What we had was real,” he claimed. “I’ve been pretending to work with Mona to keep you safe. I need you to believe me.” The pair then made up set to a beautiful soundtrack.
Ashley Benson) took a job babysitting Malcolm to find out who it was that took him on last week’s episode. When the culprit was revealed as Spencer, the rest of the girls have a momentary freak out. Using there best detective skills, they set out to find out if Spencer has really changed sides by tricking her with the red coat.
After they learn the truth — that she and Toby are really just playing both sides — the girls breathe a sigh of relief. After all they’re now one step ahead of Mona and the Red Coat.
But who is Red Coat?
Shay Mitchell), Aria and Hanna decide to confront Mona.
“You have no idea what she’s capable of,” Mona warned Spencer moments before. “You don’t want to disappoint her.”
Then within moments of Red Coat’s arrival, a fire is set at the lodge with Mona and the three girls trapped in the house. It’s unclear whether Red Coat actually set the fire to begin with, but for some reason she helped the girls out of the blaze, pulling them out one by one. So, just who exactly is she?
As the Liars head back to Rosewood and Mona explains the story of how she was approached by Red Coat at Radley, they come across Wilden’s police car. Seemingly destroyed from being at the bottom of the lake, the video of Ashley (Laura Leighton) running Wilden over is playing but this time there is more to the footage. Seconds later, the girls see video of Jenna (Tammin Sursok) and Shana (Aerial Miranda) helping him.
That’s right! Jenna is back AND in cahoots with Shana and Spencer’s older sister Melissa (Torrey DeVitto).
The other somewhat expected revelation of the finale – Aria and Ezra (Ian Harding) are dunzo. The former teacher took back his job at Rosewood High and they parted ways. It was sad, but something tells me that they’re not completely done just yet.
Then of course, the episode ended with a gasp and a text. After seeing the video of Shana and Jenna, the girls and Mona open Wilden’s trunk to find – well, what? We don’t know yet! But seconds later, they all receive from “A” — “You’re mine now. Kisses.” And then a hand raises from the ground, with another pulling it up.
OMG: What wasn’t an OMG moment during the finale – Toby’s back! Jenna’s back and working with Shauna and Melissa! Alison may be Red Coat! It was all OMG worthy!
Thank you, TV gods.: For a crazy amount of reveals and an awesome season finale!
Awk-ward: “Hi, I’m Mr. Fitz, your substitute teacher again.” Aw, so awkward and a knife through the heart for Aria. That was kind of painful to watch!
Hotness: Toby is back and more importantly so is Spoby!! The pair rekindled their relationship in a secret motel! It was nice to see Spence happy again, if even for a few moments!
Can. Not. Wait.: For Season 4!!
Celebuzz (1-10): 10. This finale takes the cake over previous seasons with a plethora of crazy reveals and SO MANY questions left to answer. Season 4 can not come fast enough.
Pretty Little Liars fourth season premieres on Tuesday, June 11 at 8PM on ABC Family.
So tell me PLL fans, what do you think of this crazy finale?! Do you think Alison is actually alive? Are you excited Toby appears to actually be a good guy? What was your favorite reveal? We want to hear it all in the comments below!
