Justin Bieber just wants to act his age.

But as he knows firsthand, being 19 and famous comes with an endless cycle of headlines, rumors and extra attention devoted to every detail of his life.

From his “worst birthday” to hospitalization, the infamous gas mask and shirtless sightings in London, Bieber’s recent headlines haven’t been all too positive.

Now the recent spitting allegation and battery report by the singer’s neighbor has led the superstar to go on the defensive… again.

“The biggest misconception about me is that I’m a bad person,” he recently told Us Weekly. “I get upset about that. I have a big heart. I want to be a good role model, but some people want me to fail.”

“I’m young and I make mistakes. That’s part of growing up,” he continued. “I mess up sometimes. It’s part of growing up.”

On Monday, his neighbor accused the entertainer of battery after Bieber reportedly drove his Ferrarri at high speeds in the gated Calabasas, Calif. community. Another resident confirmed to Celebuzz on Wednesday that Bieber also spat at the neighbor who filed the battery report. No charges have been filed.

Bieber, who is due in Munich, Germany for the next stop of his Believe tour on Thursday, also told Us Weekly that despite the bad headlines, he’s still truckin’ along.

“This business can break you down, but I have a strong team around me, and my family and all the fans,” he said. “The love overcomes the negativity. I’m not perfect but I’m growing and trying to be better everyday. That’s part of life.”

Addressing the bizarre gas mask sightings from London, Bieber told Us that it was all for fun.

“I wanted to hide my face from al the cameras,” he said. “[My friends] got it as a joke. My friends and I like messing around.”

The “Boyfriend” singer may have some five more months of touring left on his schedule, but he’s already looking ahead to what’s next.

“I’m thinking about my next album, next tour. Or maybe I’ll take a break,” he told Us. “I’m figuring it out. isn’t that what you’re supposed to do at 19?”
