This Boy Is Leaving ‘Girls’
HBO’s Girls will have a little less testosterone next season .
Sources confirmed to Page Six Thursday that Christopher Abbott, the doe-eyed actor who plays Marnie’s (Allison Williams) boyfriend, Charlie, has abruptly quit the show after finding himself at odds with its creator, Lena Dunham.
“He didn’t like the direction things are going in, which seems a bit odd since the show put him on the map,” the source said.
Added Abbott’s rep: “[Chris] is grateful for the experience of collaborating with Lena, Judd [Apatow], and the entire ‘Girls’ cast and crew, but right now he’s working on numerous other projects and has decided not to return to the show.”
Abbott’s departure certainly has fans wondering how the show will pick up from its second season finale, in which Charlie finally reunited with Marine, in admittedly schmaltzy fashion.
No word yet on how his exit will be handled. (Though, let’s hope it isn’t as dark as anything that happened last season. Ugh.)
Will you miss Abbott on Girls? Or is it time for Marnie to date someone new? Sound off, below.
