Selena Denies 'Come & Get It' Is About Bieber
Amid swirling rumors, Selena Gomez reveals the real meaning behind her new single.
Ever since she teased "Come & Get It," late last week, speculation has swirled around some of the new single's lyrics — such as "I love you too much, much to hide you, this love ain't finished yet." But now, on the heels of dropping the track in full, Gomez is squashing any theories that it is about her ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber.
"Honestly, to be 100 percent real, it's not really about a specific person," she said on Ryan Seacrest's radio show. "The reason why I wanted this to be the first single was because it exudes...confidence and strength and that is something I'm willing to share with the world.
"That's the place I want to be in," she continued. "I want to represent something good and be a good example. So, I think it's fun."
"I think the song is very powerful and it’s fun," she explained of the song, which she will perform live at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday. "It does have a little tribal, Middle Eastern kind of feel to it, which I love. It’s very vibey. So I love that.... I thought it was a perfect introduction to everything else."
With the rest of the record, Gomez found inspiration from a range of fellows artists, from country-pop BFF Taylor Swift to electronic musician Skrillex.
Though a release date has yet to be announced, Gomez has wrapped the album, which she feels represents a shift in her career.
"I’ve been recording...since October of last year and it’s finished. It was a fun process to put it together," she said. It was the hardest I’ve ever worked on an album because I knew it was going to be a really interesting transition for me to make. So I spent about a couple of months figuring that out. To actually be able to be behind the songs creatively is fun, too."
