Bradley Cooper took home the first award of the night for Best Male Performance for his role in Silver Linings Playbook.

The Oscar nominiee - who played mental health victim Pat Soldano in the dramedy - paid tribute to army veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder on accepting his award.

"The Best part of playing Pat Soldano was that I got to travel across the country meeting families with relatives suffering from PTSD," he said.

"More vets die from suicide than do in the field of battle, it's like an epidemic."

Cooper also picked up Best Kiss for his smooch with co-star Jennifer Lawrence, who won an Academy Award for her role.
