Maybe Justin Bieber was right about Anne Frank after all.
The iconic diarist’s stepsister Eva Schloss believes the Canadian pop star’s recent controversial remark could have been correct.
“She probably would have been a fan. Why not?” Schloss told the Uk Telegraph newspaper.
Schloss – whose stepfather was Otto Frank the diarist’s father – doesn’t think Bieber’s recent faux-pas was all that bad.
The 19-year-old caused headlines around the world after he visited the Anne Frank Museum in Amsterdam by writing in the museum guestbook: “Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber.”
But Schloss admits she doesn’t know what all the fuss was about.
“He’s a young man and she was a young girl, and she liked film stars and music,” Schloss said. “They make a lot of fuss about everything that is connected with Anne Frank,” she adds.
Anne Frank, who died at age 15 at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945, is one of the most well-known and celebrated Jewish victims of the Holocaust due to her diary.
Her diary, first published in 1947, details the deprivations and personal triumphs she and her family experienced in hiding during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands.
Eva and Anne had been friends prior to the war – her father married Eva’s mother following World War II.
