Tom Cruise is a box office champion once again.
The 50-year-old actor’s latest work, Oblivion, took top honors at the box office this weekend with some $38.2 million in ticket sales, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The sci-fi film also continued to dominate movie theaters overseas (it opened internationally last week), with another $33.7 million. To date, the film has made more than $150 million.
42, the biopic about baseball great Jackie Robinson, grossed $18 million over the weekend, bringing its total to $54.1 million. In third place was The Croods, featuring the voices of Ryan Reynolds and Emma Stone, with $.95 million.
Meanwhile, The Place Beyond the Pines, Ryan Gosling’s second collaboration with director Derek Cianfrance, continues to hold steady despite playing at significantly fewer theaters than the films in the top five. (For comparison, Pines was featured at 1,542 theaters while Oblivion played in more than 3,700).
Rounding out the top ten in its seventh week was Oz The Great and Powerful with $3 million. The Sam Raimipicture has grossed more than $223 million to date.
