Reese Witherspoon Told Cops She Was Pregnant To Keep Her Husband From Getting Arrested
Even though she wasn't.
"I [had] no idea what I was saying that night," Witherspoon, 37, said on Thursday's Good Morning America, recalling an April 19 incident in which she and hubby Jim Toth were arrested in Atlanta. "I saw [the officer] arresting my husband and I literally panicked. I said all kinds of crazy things. I told him I was pregnant. I'm not pregnant! I said crazy things. [Laughs]"
"You only hear me laughing because I had no idea what I was talking about and I am so sorry," she continued. "I was so disrespectful to him. I have police officers in my family. I work with police officers every day. I know better."
Witherspoon was ultimately booked on charges of disorderly conduct after she did the whole "Do you know who I am?" song and dance routine in front of the arresting officer. (That didn't work, either.)
She now says she's really, really sorry for everything that came out of her mouth that night.
"It [was] one of those nights," she said. "We went out to dinner in Atlanta, had one too many glasses of wine. We thought we were fine to drive and we absolutely were not. And it's just completely unacceptable. And we are so sorry and embarrassed. And we know better."
"It was just poor judgment. And I think we made a mistake. It's something that will absolutely never happen again. Just bad judgment."
