Gatsby Soundtrack Proves That Great Music Is Timeless

With Jay Z at the helm, a winning album salutes the Gilded Age.

From the luxe set design to the glamorous costumes, everything about the upcoming Baz Luhrmann take on The Great Gatsby just exudes style and class.

Case in point: one full listen to the Gatsby soundtrack illustrates how to take some of today’s hottest hip hop and pop artists and make them the perfect fit for the ultimate Jazz Age movie.

Beyonce and Andre 3000, Lana Del Rey, Florence + The Machine, Bryan Ferry, The xx and executive producer Jay Z all play key roles in the soundtrack – and prove that the groundbreaking, frenetic jazz of the 1920’s draw comparisons to the beats of today.

Luhrmann and the artists he attracted to the project want to create the same feeling about Jazz age music that exists about the novel – namely, that what was hip and cool 100 years ago still maintains its edge today.

Check out the “Great Music is Timeless” feature above to see how The Great Gatsby soundtrack came to be – and be sure to see Gatsby in 3D when it opens in theaters everywhere this Friday.
