Well Done, Jay-Z: ‘The Great Gatsby’ Soundtrack Could Reach No. 2 On Billboard 200
The star-studded party otherwise known as Music from Baz Luhrmann’s Film The Great Gatsby, aka. The Great Gatsby soundtrack is making plenty of noise in the music world.
Billboard is reporting that the Jay-Z produced album, featuring gems from Fergie, Lana Del Rey, Beyonce Knowles (duh) and Jay himself, could sell more than 100,000 copies by the end of its first week of release.
Unless it has extra horsepower to plow past Lady Antebellum’s latest album Golden (expected to sell some 150,000 copies), the Gatsby soundtrack will most likely debut at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Baz Luhrmann and Anton Monsted are also producers on the 14-track album.
Meanwhile, The Great Gatsby film enjoyed a strong first day, grossing some $19.4 million in North America. According to Box Office Mojo, the film is expected to finish the weekend around the $50 million mark, behind last weekend’s box office champion Iron Man 3.
