Bill Hader Departing ‘Saturday Night Live’

Eight-year Saturday Night Live veteran Bill Hader will bid his final goodbye this Saturday night when he leaves the show for good. Speaking with the New York Times, Hader said that he felt “it’s just time to go.”

Hader’s departure will mean another empty seat at the Weekend Update desk, as Seth Meyers will also be leaving the show next year to become host of NBC’s Late Night as Jimmy Fallon moves up a time slot to The Tonight Show. Some of Hader’s most famous characters were regulars on Weekend Update including James Carville, Eliot Spitzer and, of course, Stefon. Hader was also famous for his impressions of Al Pacino, Julian Assange, Fox News anchor Shepard Smith and Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham.

“It was a hard decision, but it has to happen at some point,” Mr. Hader said.

Hader will be moving to Los Angeles with his family including his wife, Maggie Carey, a filmmaker. Hader is in her upcoming move The To Do List starring Aubrey Plaza, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Rachel Bilson. Hader fans will also be able to see (or hear) him this year on the big screen with Turbo, The Skeleton Twins and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2.

This week’s SNL season finale will certainly feature a special goodbye from Stefon, but in the meantime, here are some of his most beloved characters.
