‘All in the Family’ Star Jean Stapleton Dead at 90
One of television’s most beloved actresses has passed away.
Jean Stapleton, who rose to fame in the 1970s thanks to her role as Edith Bunker in the sitcom All in the Family, died of natural causes in her home in New York on Saturday, her family confirmed. [via The Hollywood Reporter]
She was 90.
Her portrayal of Archie Bunker’s wife, opposite the great Carroll O’Connor, earned the star three Emmy awards. Stapleton went on to appear on the show’s spinoff, Archie Bunker’s Place, before she was written out as passing away off-camera from a stroke.
Following All in the Family, Stapleton starred as First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt in a TV series on CBS and guested on Grace Under Fire as Aunt Vivian.
The star is survived by her two children.
