Miley Cyrus Premieres New Single, 'We Can't Stop'
Miley Cyrus has finally dropped "We Can't Stop," the first single off her much-anticipated fourth album. Taking over On Air with Ryan Seacrest on Monday morning, Cyrus said she's been working toward this release since February.
"I've been waiting for this moment for months now, just trying to get to this point," Cyrus gushed. "This green button is really tempting. I get to push it, I'm very excited.... I can't wait. My heart is beating a thousand miles a minute."
"The fans have made it...a huge event," she continued, explaining that only those "closest in [her] life" had heard the tune ahead of its world premiere. "[The song has] trended every day. The lead-up has been so crazy that this moment is nuts."
On the upbeat track, produced by Mike WiLL Made-It, Cyrus croons about partying carefree up in the club (See full lyrics at DirectLyrics). The the chorus goes a little something like this:
"So la da da di/ We like to party/ Dancing with Miley/ Doing whatever we want/ This is our house/ This is our rules And we can't stop/ And we won't stop/ Can't you see it's we who own the night/ Can't you see it's we who 'bout that life. We run things, they don't run we/ We won't take nothing from nobody."Cyrus' upcoming album has been hyped up as a brand new sound for the former Disney darling, seeing her team up with hip-hop heavyweights like Snoop Lion, will.i.am, Tyler, the Creator, Pharrell and French Montana.
But "We Can't Stop" sounds very much in same vein as her past pop-laden hits: years after she put her "hands up" in "Party in the USA," those hands are still "in the air like we don't care." But this time, the party is laced with "getting turnt up" on molly, "shaking it like we at a strip club," and "homegirls with the big butts."
Still, Cyrus thinks the track is a step up for her.
"This sound really says where I am in my life right now," Cyrus said. "This is the perfect way to preview what my album will sound like.... I love making music and I continue to make stuff that keeps getting better and keeps feeling more me."
While her long-awaited album is due out later this year, Cyrus is still working out the specifics of the roll-out plan. "I don't know what I want to come next," she said. "Either way, we're going to win with what we do. My record is kind of like a movie, it's really a story of what I've been going through for the last two years."
For now, stayed tuned for the "We Can't Stop" music video, due to drop in 10 days.
