'Real Housewives of New Jersey' Recap: Teresa and Melissa Have An Awkward Playdate

It’s a new year, but the same ole’ drama on Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New Jersey. Last season, it didn’t seem as though Caroline Manzo, Jacqueline Laurita, Melissa Gorga and Kathy Wakile would ever get past their beef with Teresa Giudice after the explosive reunion showdown the women attended. Could the ladies put their issues behind them?

Note: Spoilers ahead if you haven't watched Sunday's episode: "Garden State of Emergency"

Not even Hurricane Sandy could make the ladies of the Garden state bury the hatchet. It seems Melissa and Teresa are still not on speaking terms, which means their children no longer see each other because their parents choose not to act like adults. Melissa claims she doesn’t want her children around Tre, because her sister-in-law talks smack about her around them.

Meanwhile, Teresa just doesn’t get why Melissa won’t apologize for the wrongs she’s caused her, mainly keeping her brother Joe Gorga away from the family fold again. We see denial still runs through Tre, and we’re not talking about the river in Egypt either.

Melissa’s little girl Antonia decided to write Tre’s spitfire tyke Milania a touching letter saying how much she missed her cousin. Tre appeared to be the bigger person by calling Antonia up, so the children could play together. At first, it looked as though Melissa was just making up an excuse to keep away from Teresa. However, we soon found out Melissa’s instincts were correct as Tre’s eldest daughter Gia and dad “Juicy” Joe Giudice started to bash Melissa for not inviting Milania to Antonia’s birthday party.

I’m all for family being, as Caroline would say, “thick as thieves”, but Joe and Gia are way out of line commenting on things that aren’t their business! Why is Gia, who is a child, all up in adult conversations and situations? Didn’t Teresa say last season, she doesn’t get her husband mixed up in the estrangement she has with her brother? While it is good for families to be open and honest, Joe and Gia need to stay in their respective lanes, and let the Gorga siblings and Melissa deal with their feuds.

We get Joe and Gia have Tre’s back, but we know she can handle her own. Who could forget when a pregnant Teresa flipped a table when she was about to snatch former RHONJ cast mate Danielle Staub a new one? With all the animosity the Gorgas and Tre have going on, the only pot Joe and Gia need to be stirring is the one on the stove making something from Teresa’s Skinny Italian cookbook.
