‘Pretty Little Liars’ Recap: Handcuffs and Bee Stings

Last night’s episode of  Pretty Little Liars found two of our Liars headed to college while another seemed to be headed to jail.

Yes, jail.

“A” pulled out all the stops in her most recent scheme as the final moments of this episode, “Gamma Zeta Die,” featured one of our four girls handcuffed and in the back seat of a Rosewood Police Department car. Uh-oh? Could a Liar REALLY be headed to the big house?

Note: Spoilers ahead if you haven’t seen Tuesday’s episode, “Gamma Zeta Die.”

While it’s unlikely Hanna Marin (Ashley Benson) will spend time behind bars, she sure does have a tough few episodes ahead of her after she was arrested because of her foolish plan to steal the gun she believes killed Wilden and bury it in the woods to protect her mother.

I know, I know, she’s trying to be a good daughter and all, but did you really think this was a good idea Hanna?! Really?! It had to be one of the dumbest things we’ve ever seen this character do.

Not to mention, she seemed to be putting her fingerprints all over the alleged murder weapon. That’s just not good behavior for a liar. Spencer (Troian Bellisario) certainly thought Hanna had gone a bit nuts as moments prior to the blonde’s arrest, she was attempting to convince Hanna to bring the gun back to her father.

With Hanna setting back the police investigation into her mother, Ashley (Laura Leighton), was doing the sensible thing and seeking legal advice from Spencer’s mom, Veronica Hastings (Lesley Fera). From what we can tell, it seems the new detectives in town have a pretty good case against Ashley. So did she really do it? We’ll have to wait and see but the redhead is looking more suspicious with every episode.

However, Hanna wasn’t the only Liar attempting to protect her mother during “Gamma Zeta Die.” After a vicious and venomous attack on Ella Montgomery (Holly Marie Combs) by “A” courtesy of a swarm of bees, Aria (Lucy Hale) tearfully pleaded with her dad, Byron (Chad Lowe), to convince her mother to go to Vienna with her boyfriend Zach. The storyline also featured the reemergence of Aria’s long lost younger brother Mike (Cody Christian) who has apparently been playing video games since we lost saw him.

Meanwhile, Spencer and Emily (Shay Mitchell) spent much of the episode following the Ali trail to nearby (?) Cicero College, which happens to share some digits with Tippi the bird’s mystery phone number. But while Spence had her detective hat on, Emily was attempting to “rebrand” herself as a sorority girl for a better chance at a college scholarship.

Spence, of course, found the creepiest room at the sorority party, which happened to feature an unplugged phone connected to the number. Who was calling Ali from this phone? Was it “board shorts”? And is this an “A” Lair? These are the questions that come when provided with an answer on PLL.

And then there was the end cap to the episode — “A” dusting off a picture of the sorority girls featuring former house mother Carla Grunwald. What is her role in the mystery of “A” and Ali? Only time will tell.

Buzz Moments

OMG: I should probably say this was when Hanna got arrested but actually it was those BEES! Eeek, I’m still squirming from Ella’s attack.

Thank you, TV gods.: For the writers of this episode. Spence had some killer lines, including a Game of Thrones reference and my favorite line of the night “Mom, I am NOT a sofa” in regard to repositioning herself for college.

Awk-ward: Mike’s dig to Aria about getting “frisky with Fitz” was awkward yet awesome.

Hotness: Boo. There was not a one hot moment this episode.

Fab-u-lous: Hanna donned an adorable blue and white Alice and Olivia frock on this episode, which you can grab on sale at netaporter.com. You can also see a similar style on wornontv.net.

Can. Not. Wait.: To see how Hanna is going to work herself out of this one.

Celebuzz (1-10): 6. An overall average episode of PLL with some answers and MANY more questions.

What do you think about Hanna’s big arrest? Will she really spend time behind bars? And who do you think was on the other end of that phone number? Sound off with your thoughts, theories and comments below!
