Leah Remini Is Quitting Scientology
Somewhere deep in the desert of Africa, actress Leah Remini has emerged from a dark cave filled with booby traps and sinkholes and is currently tasting light for the first time in years after making what is being called a “dramatic break” from the Church of Scientology.
The New York Post reported the wacky details of her exit on Thursday, which apparently dates back to Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ 2006 wedding.
From the report:
Former Sea Org member Mike Rinder blogged this week that at Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ 2006 wedding, Remini innocently asked where Miscavige’s wife, Shelly, was. Former Scientology Celebrity Centre head Tommy Davis scolded her, “You don’t have the [bleeping] rank to ask about Shelly.” Mrs. Miscavige reportedly hasn’t been seen in public since 2007.
The source says that Remini was subjected to years of interrogation and “thought modification” for asking said innocent question. The Church, meanwhile, launched a full-on investigation of her family. (Is this the stuff that Edward Snowden was talking about?)
But don’t worry, King of Queens fans. The source concludes that Remini is going to be just fine, because “she’s from Brooklyn.”
UPDATE: In a statement released to US Weekly Thursday, Remini said:
I wish to share my sincere and heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming positive response I have received from the media, my colleagues, and from fans around the world. I am truly grateful and thankful for all your support.
