Throwback Thursday: Prince William Is Born Inside St. Mary's Lindo Wing

Just as they are doing today, reporters waited outside St. Mary's Lindo wing in 1982 to capture the excitement surrounding Prince William's birth.

On June 21st of that year, the United Kingdom welcomed its newest heir to the throne.  The newborn weighed 7 lbs, 1/2 oz, and was visited by family on both sides, including Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and Diana's parents, Frances Shand-Kydd and Earl Spencer.

About a week after his birth, Prince William Arthur Philip Louis' name was released, and on August 4th he was baptized in Buckingham Palace's Music Room.

After his son's birth, Prince Charles joked to the press that William had "the good fortune" not to resemble him.

When William's own child is born, he will follow royal protocol and first inform the Queen before anyone else.  A 41-gun salute will go off in Hyde Park to mark the heir's birth, as a declaration containing Baby Cambridge's information will be posted outside the palace.
