LA Squirrels Test Positive For Bubonic Plague
Sh*t, you guys. A plague-infected squirrel has been found north of Los Angeles. This is the kind of nonsense we learned about in An American Tail, except this time it’s for real.
According to USA Today, those little rats with fur coats tested positive for the bubonic plague (the same one that we learned about in high school), forcing three campgrounds in the Angeles National Forest to close.
The bacterial infection is transmitted through fleas, so authorities had to go through squirrel burrows to do some heavy-duty dusting.
According to the BBC, this particular plague killed around 25 million Europeans during the Middle Ages.
It’s as if Dwight Schrute’s prophecy is coming to fruition.
