Will the Real Slim Shady Please Stand Up and Accept Our Accolades for This Amazing Performance?

At the peak of his powers, Eminem took the stage took to the streets for a performance of his mega-smash "The Real Slim Shady." It was one thing to see a bunch of Eminem clones in the music video, but watching the mass of bleach-haired doppelgängers descend on Radio City Music Hall was something else entirely.

It was the perfect way of referencing his ultra-popular video without simply reenacting it. Without a doubt, it is Eminem's most memorable performance at the VMAs — and perhaps his most memorable performance ever. Don't believe me?  Listen to the crowd roar as he enters the auditorium at approximately 1:43 in the video of the performance.

Perhaps most entertainigly, Eminem rapped the famed, controversial lines about Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera as he walked through the audience where both women sat.

After making his way past several of the other people he mentions in the song — including Fred Durst and Carson Daly — he finally hit the stage and began the second half of his performance, a rendition of "The Way I Am." The song, a middle-finger to critics and to the public in general, was a brave choice for a ceremony where he was nominated for several awards (many of which he won).

Maybe, after all these years, the real Slim Shady will finally stand up and collect his "Most Iconic VMA Moment" crown. Make it happen by voting above.

Don't forget to vote for your favorite iconic VMA performance above. Return each day this week to vote again — and for a new feature on the other performances.
