Denzel Washington on ‘2 Guns': My Chemistry With Mark Wahlberg Came Naturally
In the anticipated action-comedy 2 Guns, they star a two double-crossed undercover operatives forced to team up as they try to take down a Mexican drug cartel. But in real life, Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington clicked right off the bat.
“Mark is an easy guy to get along with. Real good guy,” Washington told Celebuzz at the New York City premiere of the film. “He’s very good [and] he’s very funny. He’s a professional. We would just come in, do our job and go home.”
Wahlberg agreed that with Washington, shooting was smooth sailing from the start. “[Chemistry] did come naturally. It’s not something you can force or rehearse or create,” he explained. “It just either is there or it’s not. If it’s not there, you might as well just scrap the movie right there, give the money back, and call it a day because the movie is never going to work.”
Still, when the cameras stopped rolling, the cast did not spend much time together off set. “I was moving a lot on the weekends,” Washington said. Perhaps that was to see his family, who were scattered all over during his months of shoot. “Everybody was working,” explained his wife, Paulette, who was in Atlanta, Ga., at the time for her role an August Wilson play, Two Trains Running.
Now that the film is complete, Washington is waiting for his children to give it the two-thumbs-up. “They haven’t seen it yet,” he said. “But they are impressed with the trailers. I know that much,” Pauletta added. “That’s really crucial … in our household.”
2 Guns hits theaters this Friday.
