Lady Gaga’s ‘Applause’ Music Video Is Here

Little Monsters, rejoice — for Mother’s new music video is here.

After much self-sponsored hype and anticipation, Lady Gaga premiered the video for “Applause,” the first single off her forthcoming album ARTPOP, on Good Morning America Monday.

Directed by Dutch photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin — the duo behind her recent V magazine spread — the clip is what Gaga calls “a fashion, pop, performance art fantasia,” flip-flopping between black and white, color and hand-painted film to “tell a story from beginning to end.”

Throughout, Gaga continues to take an artsy cue from her newfound mentor Marina Abramovic, appearing in various levels of dress, from almost nude to a full-body black bodysuit, turning into a black swan, and, of course, wearing her now-famous colorful “Applause” clown makeup.

“Applause” was originally set for release today, but Gaga pushed it forward a week in advance after hackers leaked snippets of the song online. Declaring a state of “pop music emergency” last Monday, the 27-year-old officially debuted the tune, with which she is set to open Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards.

Since then, two other ARTPOP tracks  one currently debated as either titled “Burqa” or “Aura”, and her secret duet with Cher — have also made their way onto the web. For now, ARTPOP is slated to be released Nov. 11.
