Teenaged Lena Duhman Wrote to a Sex Columnist for Advice
Long before having all kinds of awkward sex on Girls, Lena Dunham was just a 19-year-old looking to lose her virginity. As such, she wrote in to Time Out New York’s Get Naked column, asking if there was any “proper etiquette” when it comes to admitting her sexual status to a prospective partner.
“I speak for all my virgin friends when I say that confessing we are virgins has stopped more than one sexual experience from professing further,” she confides in the letter, which she shared on Instagram in honor of today’s Throwback Thursday.
The magazine’s then-resident sexpert Jamie Bufalino responds: “Hang on to that v-card until I tell you it’s time to relinquish it. There will be no deadline-setting or peer-pressuring. You will simply live your Intermix-clad, iPod-accessorized, O.C.-obsessed life until you meet a young man who doesn’t give a whit about your sexual status, but just wants to express his love for you through three timid thrusts and premature ejaculation.”
Now nearly a decade later, Lena writes, “Thank you, bro.”
