‘Reality Bites’ Is Becoming A TV Series: Let’s Cast It

The dream of the ’90s is alive! (On television, at least.)

Ben Stiller, Reality Bites original director, is working with writer Helen Childress to adapt the 1994 Gen X classic for the small screen, Deadline reports.

The beloved movie was made up of a pretty much incomparable cast, including Winona Ryder, Ethan Hawke, Ben Stiller, Janeane Garofolo, and Steve Zahn.

How will they ever capture the magic of this ensemble? And will they sing “My Sharona” in a gas station?

It’s time to recast.

Let’s start with what-should-I-do-with-my-life-dreamgirl protagonist Lelaina Pierce, who was originally portrayed by Ryder. Is Felicity Jones too British? Is Elizabeth Olsen too blah? Is Zoe Kravitz too edgy? Emma Watson is my ultimate choice. (She’s British, too, but she’s Emma Watson.)

As for ultra-slacker/brooding musician Troy Dyer? Well, it’s very hard to find a modern day young Ethan Hawke. Someone in the office mentioned Penn Badgley and I just died a little inside. If Taylor Kitsch threw on some flannel he would definitely do the role justice. Garrett Hedlund is probably too old, but he’s my pick.

I do think The Spectacular Now’s Miles Teller could pull off Ben Stiller’s tragically un-hip working stiff, Michael.

And I would totally be down for either Arrested Development alum — Mae Whitman or Alia Shawkat in the role of spunky best friend and Gap manager, Vickie (Garofolo.) Kat Dennings also comes to mind, but she’s already doing her own 20-something thing over at 2 Broke Girls.

Let’s give Steve Zahns Sammy to the always adorable Anton Yelchin.

(Drops the mic.)

Who would be your picks? And do you sometimes think that Laney should have chosen responsible Michael in the end? Ugh, I’m old and square now.
