Maria has found her Captain.

True Blood star Stephen Moyer has been hired to play Capt. Von Trapp for NBC’s upcoming live production of The Sound of Music, according to Variety.

The news comes some nine months after Carrie Underwood was named as the lead actress for the telecast, taking on Julie Andrews’ iconic role of Maria.

We’re thrilled to be presenting the Broadway version of The Sound of Music live,” producers Craig Zadan and Neil Moran said at the time. “Having Carrie Underwood as the star brings it to a new generation who will fall in love with it for the first time as many millions of people already have.”

Moyer, who’s portrayed Bill Compton on HBO’s True Blood for six seasons, also has a lengthy musical past. His resume includes posts at the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Oxford Stage Company, among others.

In July, the 43-year-old actor also played Billy Flynn in Chicago for three performances at the Hollywood Bowl.

The Sound of Music will air on NBC on Dec. 5.
