Parents Television Council Mad at MTV for Letting Miley Cyrus Twerk at VMAs

/ August 27, 2013

The old fogeys that make up the Parents Television Council are ticked off at MTV for letting Miley Cyrus twerk around stage Sunday night at the Video Music Awards.

“MTV continues to sexually exploit young women by promoting acts that incorporate ‘twerking’ in a nude-colored bikini. How is this image of former child star Miley Cyrus appropriate for 14-year-olds?” The PTC asked, referring to Cyrus’ performance medley with America’s favorite drunk uncle, Robin Thicke.

“This much is absolutely clear,” the statement continued. “MTV marketed adults-only material to children while falsely manipulating the content rating to make parents think the content was safe for their children.” (Fun fact: Cyrus’ father, Billy Ray, is on the PTC’s Advisory Board.)

Another Board member, Paul Porter, subsequently took the statement a step further by stating that “heads should roll at MTV.”

As for Miley, well, let’s just say she hasn’t received the memo.
